In 2052, a lunar mining company by the name of MoonTech had the distinction of creating more billionaires then any company before it. The revenues being generated by the company allowed it to venture into other deep space related ventures also. It built dozens of hydrogen collection stations around Jupiter and Saturn that were key to the exploration of the outer rim planets. It also established the largest automated mining fleet in the solar system that linked the resources of the outer solar system to Earth.

Today, the company is located in twelve different star systems. Most of their operations are conducted in uninhabited systems. A common strategy utilized in inhabited systems in exchange for receiving unfettered mining rights, is giving nearly nine percent of what is mined to local governments at no profit. The remaining material is sold at local markets or on the Virtual Shopping Network.
